Welcome to Week 2 - Let's check in with each other!

Thank you for all the positive responses to the Wales Wellbeing blog last week.  It has been wonderful to connect with so many staff and families to find out how you are spending your time.  Lots of different people across the community have been in touch to help us put together useful links and articles.  Please keep these coming so we can continue to advertise the support available.

We hope that you were able to take part in the clap for the NHS!  Our wellbeing team did and it was really uplifting to hear everyone together supporting some of our amazing key workers - there were even fireworks released!

If you have missed the amazing YouTube clip this week of the two young Italian musicians, it is posted below.  It was truly magical to see the brothers making music together and goes to show that being indoors can still be fun.  This post gave us goosebumps and made us smile too.

This week, some useful links have been included in the sidebar (on your left) where you can access support should you want more information on how to support student wellbeing.  Young Minds, Anna Freud and My Mind Matters are all excellent organisations who have put together some useful resources for families. If you are struggling please contact Miss Cooper who might be able signpost other support available at this time (cco@waleshigh.com). There is also guidance for students on key details about the coronavirus as it is important that everyone is aware of the facts rather than relying solely on social media where messages can sometimes become distorted.

The team have enjoyed compiling pictures of innovative ways to spend your time from creative activities to surfing in your living room! It is important that we try to have fun - even though that may mean doing something a little out of the ordinary.  It helps us to connect (one of the 5 steps to wellbeing) and provides a much needed 'moment of joy' where you can just have fun!

Mrs Leivars also sent us some information about an app that is available to all students.  The link is in the side bar and below.  We asked Hannah Jones in Year 12 to give us a quick review - she said:

It looks really good !
The videos are really good at putting things into perspective and providing a sort of “logic” behind why we feel certain ways and that’s it’s ok that we feel down sometimes. It also has strategies and methods for coping with low moods which looks good and is directed towards young people. It looks really helpful 🙂

We've been in touch with a few Heads of Year to see if some of our younger students would like to get involved in our blog.  It can be ANYTHING - pictures, videos... send it to cco@waleshigh.com and then we'll make sure it is published in the next blog.  Hope you enjoy this weeks edition.

Stay safe and smiling,

The Wellbeing Team :-)

P.S. Make sure you've got a rainbow in your window! These are really helping parents of younger children make walks more fun as they see how many they can find.  Send us a picture of yours!
